Course Title: Formal Knowledge Representation for Natural Language Processing (11-728)
Department: Language Technologies Institute (LTI)
Units: 6
Semester: Spring
Instructor: Michael Kohlhase
Prerequisites: Instructor consent.
Course Description:
As natural language processing moves into areas, like
information retrieval,
question answering, where purely syntactical analysis will not suffice
any more,
the question about how to represent the knowledge that will
be used by these
processes becomes crucial.
In this course we will introduce a number of fundamental
representation and inference techniques that make use of this
knowledge. We will discuss their relations, expressiveness and look at paradigm systems.
