Electives Recommended for LTI graduate students:
Linguistics
Courtesy of Lori Levin:
These are some recommended courses from the Linguistics Department at
Pitt. (Cross-registration at "Pitt" (the University of
Pittsburgh) is easy to do.) We still have to check with CMU's Modern
Languages, Philosophy, and English departments. They may have some
courses that are suitable for remedials or electives.
The hotlinks below point to parts of the list of
courses at the Linguistics Department at Pitt. There is also a Pitt
college-level Linguistics course descriptions page. It only shows
the current semester's courses.
- Remedial:This could serve as a remedial course for
LTI students with no background in Linguistics:
1950 Introduction to Linguistics (note: LTI Masters credit only)
- Electives:These are possible electives for LTI students:
1443 American Indian Languages (note: LTI Masters credit only)
2777 Syntactic Theory
2578 Phonetics and Phonemics
2579 Phonology
2773 Morphology

2450 Structure of American Indian Language
2860 Intro to Historical Linguistics
2861 Topics in Historical Linguistics

Since we listed American Indian Languages as a possible elective, it
may be worth listing courses from the various language departments,
e.g., Spanish linguistics, Japanese linguistics, etc.
