The LTI Faculty has decided that it would be reasonable for certain courses outside of SCS to count as "SCS" courses in terms of satisfying the "2 SCS courses" degree requirement. In particular, courses that are in our several "recommended electives" lists ought to be considered as relevant to an LTI degree as the average SCS course. Note that it is still required that a course be at least "Senior" level to count towards an MLT degree, and must be a graduate-level course to count towards the PhD degree.

Given the above constraints on course level, as of Spring 2003, the elective courses outside of SCS that now count for credit include only the Linguistics electives and the Speech-related electives at the 18-7xx level. (Since the HCI elective "05-610 Introduction to Human-Computer Interaction Methods" is already in the SCS.)
