Language Technologies Institute Open House

March 26th- 29th 2008

The Language Technologies Institute Open House is March 26-29. It will be an informative and fun experience. You will meet other grad students, learn more about the exciting research in our department, and visit local neighborhoods.

Travel and Hotel Information

1st Step:
Make your travel arrangements to arrive on the evening of Wednesday, March 26th if possible. If necessary, you may arrive by the end of breakfast on Thursday, March 27th and not miss important information.

Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements. You will be reimbursed for travel. If you are driving, please record your mileage at the beginning and end of your round trip. Visitors who drive will be reimbursed for gas and mileage at $0.50.5 per mile, and any tolls with receipts.

Please go to the CMU visitor’s website:

http://www.cmu.edu/home/visitors/transport.html for more information on directions, campus maps, and local transportation.

Please note: ticket purchases must be made NO later than Wednesday, March 5th to get the best possible airfare

The LTI has arranged pre-reservations at the Holiday Inn Select, University Center for students. This hotel is within walking distance to campus. Hotel expenses (room and tax) will be billed directly to CMU. Please contact Stacey Young if you wish to stay at the Holiday Inn Select, University Center, by Wednesday, March 5th.

If you are planning to fly into Pittsburgh, once you arrive at the airport, proceed to the baggage claim area. There is a ground transportation desk if you need assistance. However, there are several ways to reach the hotel from the airport:

28X Airport Flyer. Cost $2.60. The bus stops on South Bellefield Avenue at Fifth Avenue (Mellon Institute). The hotel is a short walk to the left. For additional information http://www.ridegold.com/
Express Shuttle USA
. Cost is $25 one-way, $43 round trip. It stops at the hotel; however, a reservation is required. If you arrive after 10pm, you will have to take the Airport Flyer or a taxi.
Taxi. Cost is about $40 + tip. Please save all receipts.

Guests:
We understand that choosing a graduate program is a big decision. We encourage students to bring your significant other to the LTI Open House so that they can also visit CMU and Pittsburgh.

Although we cannot offer separate travel allowances, visitors may choose to use their travel allowances to cover expenses for themselves and a significant other.

2nd Step:
E-mail Stacey Young (staceyy@cs.cmu.edu) ASAP, to notify the LTI that you will be visiting for the Open House. Please e-mail your arrival and departure times, and your mode of transportation.

3rd Step:
Arrive and enjoy what the LTI and Pittsburgh has to offer. Dress for the Open House is casual. You will be paired with a student contact that will get in touch with you via e-mail. Your student contact will be setting up your faculty meeting schedule for Open House.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be provided for all students on Thursday, March 27th as well as Breakfast and Lunch on Friday, March 28th.

4th Step: Reimbursement

Allowance: Visitors will be reimbursed for travel expenses. This includes airfare, tolls, gasoline, mileage, bus, train or taxi (unfortunately, this excludes
food or other items purchased while in transit).

• Students admitted to the PHD program will be reimbursed up to $700 maximum for travel.

• Students admitted to the Masters program will be reimbursed up to $400 maximum for travel.
