CMU Linguistics Reading GroupWhat's New (Fall '98) The
Linguistics Reading
Group is dormant right now. If you are interested in participating,
please contact Christopher Hogan.
If there is sufficient interest, I will revive the Reading Group.
This is the home page for the Linguistics Reading Group at Carnegie
Mellon University (CMULRG). All important information will be
collected here for the benefit of those interested in the Group.
PurposeThe purpose of this group will be to read about and discuss linguistic topics that are of interest to us. There is no agenda for this group other than to read interesting linguistics.
FormatThe Group will run more or less like a seminar: we will meet once every week for approximately 1.5 hours, or as long as necessary to discuss the paper at hand. At that time some person(s) from the group will be prepared to lead the discussion of a paper which everyone has read. I will attempt to make papers available for the following week at the meeting time. However, unlike a seminar, there will be no fixed topic for the entire semester. I anticipate reading on several different topics during the course of the semester. While some topics may be covered in a week, others might cover several weeks.
PhotocopyingI will make three photocopies of the papers we decide to read. We have agreed to distribute these to the Center for Machine Translation (in the photocopy room), to Baker Hall (to the Secretary of the Department of Modern Languages) and to the U. Pitt Linguistics Department (in the library). Participants are on their honor to copy the paper, and return it to the place they found it so that others may copy it as well. Hopefully all participants will find one or more of these areas convenient.
