LTI/Portugal Ph.D. Program

The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) offers a dual-degree Ph.D in Language and Information Technologies, in cooperation with Portuguese universities. This program is part of the Information and Communication Technologies Institute (ICTI). For more information, please see the ICTI website.

The LTI/Portugal Ph.D. program focuses on research in computer aided language learning (CALL) and speech-to-speech machine translation (S2SMT) involving the Portuguese language.

Participants in the program spend their first two years at the CMU LTI in Pittsburgh. The remainder of their graduate study is spent primarily in Portugal at a partner university.

When applying for the LTI/Portugal Ph.D. program, it is necessary to email both Isabel Trancoso and LTI_Portugal_Admissions@cs.cmu.edu, in addition to filling out the online application. The applicant is responsible for making sure that all items listed above (and any additional materials not included with your application) reach the Admissions Committee by the application deadline.
