What mailing address should be used to send correspondence/packages to LTI mailboxes on the 5th floor?
4902 Forbes Avenue, GHC 5404, Pittsburgh, PA 15213
If you want a package to be sent to your office, you can just use your office number instead of the mailroom one.
How do we ship packages from CMU?
CMU post office in the lower level of the UC. You can use your PCard or an Oracle string to ship via USPS. For FedEx or UPS, you must open an account and make arrangements via their website for shipping. There are drop off locations around Oakland and campus for these specific companies.
Who prints the name plates for our offices?
Our office manager, Joan Axelson, only.
Where can I find a first-aid kit?
A first aid kit has been placed in both kitchenettes on the 5th and 6th floors of Hillman Center. Reusable cold compresses (wrap with a paper towel) will also be placed in the freezer. There is a "First Aid" sticker marking their locations. Also, some are located in S. Craig St. in a marked kitchenette cabinet and TCS, room 350 in the standing cupboard, and GHC 5404, in metal cabinets.
Where can I find dry erase markers, paper clips, batteries (general office supplies)?
In the mail room on the 5th floor, 5404, in the supply file cabinets. Joan Axelson (6716) and admin staff (5715) have keys to them.
Where can I find conference owls?
In the admin closet 5401 in the filing cabinet drawer. The drawer is labeled. There is also a sign-out/sign-in sheet to be used when taking/returning the owl.
Where can I find a vacuum cleaner?
In the admin closet 5401
Where can I find a ladder?
There is one in the admin closet 5401 and a taller one in 5708.
Where can I find a tool box?
There is one located on the shelf in 5405.
Where can I find a shredder?
In office 5405 and in office 6719. There is also a large one in Wean 3124

Who should I contact concerning student travel?
Who should I contact concerning travel for postdocs or tech staff?
The admin assigned to the faculty member who is supervising the postdoc or technical staff. If no admin is assigned, or you do not know who the supervisor is, please contact lti-faculty-support@andrew.cmu.edu for assistance.
If I am charging flights to my startup or other discretionary funds, is there a requirement to use an American airline?
No. The Fly America Act only applies to federal funding. Please reach out to your assigned post-award contact or lti-research@andrew.cmu.edu with any questions about traveling on sponsored funding.

How do I book a room?

How do I (or my TAs) book rooms for office hours?
Joan Axelson takes care of booking rooms for TA office hours. Please send her an email with the following information: student names, day(s) requested, how many students expected & start/end time. After the rooms are booked, Joan will reach out to the TA's with instructions on how to obtain their key, and she will also email the advisors what rooms they have been assigned to.
What is the procedure to book an event?
It depends on the type and size of the event.
Student-led events: Students should email room requests to: lti-space@andrew.cmu.edu. For food, room setup, reimbursements, swag requests, contact: lti-academics@andrew.cmu.edu
Small, on-campus events for a faculty member or their lab: Contact your assigned admin. Events like reading groups, lab meetings, and TA grading sessions would fall under this category. If the event will repeat, please contact your admin as soon as possible for the room reservations as there is fierce competition college-wide for recurring space.
Purchasing FAQs
Who should I contact if I want to get a computer monitor?
You have two options to buy any equipment:
- Buy it yourself and get reimbursed. In this case please send the receipt to your admin. It has to have an indication of payment method (the last 4 digits of your credit card number). Please note that sales tax won’t be reimbursed.
- Ask your admin to order it for you.
How do I find an Oracle account string? How do I know how much money is remaining in a particular account?
Faculty receive monthly account summaries that contain both Oracle account strings and account balances. Account balances are valid as of the last day of the prior calendar month. Admin coordinators and sponsored research analysts can also provide account strings.
Can we reimburse books from our discretionary accounts?
Books can be charged to discretionary funds, but not sponsored.
I need a new laptop quickly. What is the best method for me to buy it?
If you have discretionary funds and need an ordinary laptop, you can purchase one from the CMU computer store with your Oracle string and your CMU ID. HOWEVER, if you want to buy an Apple product, this would NOT be the best mechanism, as there would not be the same warranty/care as if it was purchased directly from Apple.

A student needs to get a physical signature on a form to get his SSN to TA/RA. Who is the right person to sign on these forms?

If I have a visitor coming for one day, what is the best way for them to get parking?
We can get them a parking validation voucher. The validation vouchers are only good for the East Campus garage. If they want to park in GHC, we can reimburse their parking
I am not sure who my administrative assistant is. How do I find out this information?

You can put up fliers if you like. Your admin can print them and put them up if you send a PDF to them.
